Tips and Tricks

Cleaning Tips:
  • To make sure you don't miss anything when dusting a room, start at the door and work around the room in one direction.
  • Clean faster by clustering your activities; do as many tasks as you can in one place before you move on to the next area. Carry all your supplies from one room to the next in a "maid's basket" or cart.
  • To remove tar and grease stains from white shoes, try a little nail polish remover.
  • Put a few drops of your favorite perfume, or other pleasant smelling liquid on a tissue. Vacuum this tissue into the vacuum before cleaning the carpet. This is a quick way to add a beautiful smell to your room.
  • Dust on light bulbs reduces the light significantly, so keep your bulbs dusted.
  • Hair spray removes ball point pen marks
  • Twenty pounds of laundry appears to be the most energy efficient load, with only a slight upturn (loss of efficiency) beyond that point. Loads under 20 pounds are inefficient.
Cooking Tips:
  • Save the liquids from canned fruits and thicken them with cornstarch; heat and serve as a sauce over cake, ice cream or pudding.
  • Old spice jars are perfect salad dressing containers to take aloong with a salad lunch.
  • If you like whipped cream sweetened, and who doesn't, it will be fluffier and less likely to separate when made ahead, if you use confectioner's (powdered) sugar instead of granulated sugar.
  • To prevent an egg from cracking when it's placed in boiling water, pierce the broader end about 1/4" deep with a sharp neede. This also makes peeling the boiled egg easier.
  • For the lightest pancakes and waffles ever, replace the liquid in the batter with club soda. You can't store this batter so use up all of it as soon as it's made.
  • To keep dinner rolls piping hot, wrap a hot ceramic tile in a napkin and place it in the bottom of the serving basket. Be sure to place the basket on a trivet to protect the table.
  • For a cookout, pack  charcoal briquettes in cardboard egg cartons and tie shut. There's no mess, and you can ignite them right in the carton at the picnic site.
  • Rinse a pot in cold water before heating milk to keep it from sticking to the bottom.
  • To get a good grasp on jar lids and bottle tops, wrap a large rubber band around the lid and open.
  • If soup or stew is too salty, add several slices of raw potato and let it boil five minutes. When you remove the potato slices you remove the excess salt as well.
  • Slightly soured milk will regain its fresh taste if you add a pinch of soda.
  • For a nice crisp pie crust or the perfect crust on bread or rolls make the dough by substituting one Tablespoon of vinegar for one of the Tablespoons of ice water.
  • Add 1/2  teaspoon lemon juice to rice as it cooks to make it whiter and fluffier.
  • Make chocolate slivers by grating the chocolate with a potato peeler.
  • If muffins are stuck to the pan; place the hot pan on a wet towel. They will then slide right out.
  • When cooking candy, if it seems too sweet, add a pinch of salt.
  • A teaspoon of vinegar added to an gelatin recipe will keep molded salads or desserts from melting away before your eyes.
  • When deep frying, add a Tablespoon of vinegar to the fat, before it is heated, to keep the food from absorbing too much fat and to eliminate the greasy taste.
  • Cute candle holders for birthday cakes or cupcakes are lifesaver candies.
Household Tips:
  • Install a wireless doorbell! Put the "bell" where the children play downstairs or other far reaches of the house and keep the ringer where it will be convenient for you. When you need to call the children from these areas all you have to do is "ring" the doorbell and they come running. This has worked really well for me for many years.
  • Put soap slivers in a plastic cup with a little water for a few days. The soup will become soft and can be used as a liquid soap.
CLOROX  VS  PEROXIDE
  1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I do it when Ibathe.) No more canker sores, and your teeth will be whiter without expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash.
  2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of peroxide to keep them free of germs.
  3. Clean your counters and table tops with peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dish rag when you wipe, or spray it on the counters.
  4. 4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting  board, pour peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria.
  5. I had fungus on my feet for years until I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let dry.
  6. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes several times a day. My husband has seen gangrene that would not heal with any medicine but was healed by soaking in peroxide.
  7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and Water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without Harming your septic system like bleach or most other Disinfectants will.
  8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture whenever you have a cold, plugged sinus. It will bubble and help to  kill the bacteria. Hold for a few minutes, and then blow your nose into a tissue.
  9. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for ten minutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.
  10. And of course, if you like a natural look to your hair, spray the50/50 solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through. You will not have the peroxide-burnt blonde hair like the hair dye packages but more natural highlights if your hair is a light brown, reddish, or dirty blonde. It also lightens gradually, so it's not a drastic change.
  11. Put half a bottle of peroxide in your bath to help get rid of boils, fungus, or other skin infections.
  12. You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing, pour it directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and rinsewith cold water. Repeat if necessary.
  13. I use peroxide to clean my mirrors. There is no smearing, which is why I love it so much for this.
  14. Another place it's great is in the bathroom, if someone has been careless & has wet on the floor around the toilet & it's begun to smell of urine. Just put some peroxide in a spray bottle & spray.  In the blink of any eye all the smell will be gone & the bacteria eliminated!  I could go on and on. It is a little brown bottle no home should be without!  With prices of most necessities rising, I'm glad there's a way to save tons of money in such a simple, healthy manner!  This information really woke me up. I hope you gain something from it, too!   Pass it on!  Clorox vs peroxide VERY interesting and  inexpensive.
