Lupe's Notes - Jun 24, 2012

THOUGHT: “I desire the Spirit of God to know and understand myself that I might be able to overcome whatever of tradition or nature that would not tend to my exaltation in the eternal worlds. I desire a fruitful, active mind, that I may be able to comprehend the designs of God, when revealed through His servants without doubting.”

BIRTHDAYS: June 27th Candice C., 29th Linda W., and 30th Ashley P,. Have a wonderful day.
Today's lesson was presented by Darla C. and it's Elder Holland's address “ The Laborers in the Vineyard” from April General Conference.
I am grateful to enjoy this time as we discuss the gospel together. We will discuss Elder's Holland's talk, “The Laborers in the Vineyard. We will read directly from the scriptures and then read from his interpretation. There are three hidden scrolls though out the room, under chairs. Look under your chairs and if you have one, open it and glance at it and I'll call on you to read. Those will be Elder Holland's interpretation of the parable of the vineyard. Love to hear directly from the scriptures.
Karen M: read from Matt. 20:1-16
For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.
And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard
And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.
Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hours, and did likewise.
And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?
They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.
So when even was come, the Lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.
And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.
But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny.
And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house,
Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.
But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?
Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.
Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?
So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.
Now we will hear from Elder Holland:

BIRTHDAYS: June 12th Sharon J., and June 15th Sharon H.,

Our lesson today was presented by Amy Waldon, Lesson # 12 “An Enthusiastic Desire to Share the Gospel” from George Albert Smith Manual.

The title makes me tired today and I didn't want the guilt to start too early. I haven't felt great all week, but didn't feel that I should stay home. At least I can breath now. I have very specific things that I felt should be share. Thanks to Tiffany's lesson last week on revelation, I thought that the things I will share with you today was indeed revelation. I'm not sure how well I can translate it into words for you. There is something that God wants someone to know.

Today is the “big picture day.” (Amy drew a scenery picture on the board) That means that we will spend three weeks on missionary work.

Paul got home on Tuesday evening and since we both teach the same lesson we usually talk about it. He get home from military duty and I say to him, we're teaching this week. I said, “you'll never guess what we are teaching about my nemesis. And he says, 'Charity'? President Smith is so good at missionary work that there are there lessons in a row on it. Today is big picture day.

Lupe's Notes - Jun 10, 2012

Good afternoon sisters, what a blessing to have such great talent in our ward, the musical number by the four Schetselaar children and their mother was so sweet and uplifting.
THOUGHT: “The ability to qualify for, receive, and act on personal revelation is the single most important skill that can be acquired I this life.... It requires a conscious effort to diminish distractions, but having the spirit of revelation makes it possible to prevail over opposition and persist in faith through difficult days and essential routine tasks...When we have done our very best, we may still experience disappointments, but we will not be disappointed in ourselves. We can feel certain that the Lord is pleased when we feel the Spirit working through us.”

Our lesson today was from the manual, lesson 11 “Revelation from God to His Children” taught by Tiffany Weight.

Today we will be more involved in the manual. As I have reflected on the past lessons, I have noticed how all the lesson topics could be clump together to help us arrive to this one. All the lessons are a means of drawing us closer to God.

President George Albert Smith begins by sharing n experience with us.
To teach about the importance of revelation to guide the Church, George Albert Smith told of an experience he had on an airplane flight from Los Angeles, California, to Salt Lake City, Utah:

Near Milford, Utah, we suddenly flew into one of the worst fogs I have ever seen. I tried to look out of the window of the plane but could not see anything through the fog. Not a thing could be seen in any direction outside the plane.

I knew that we were approaching the mountains at the approximate rate of three miles a minute, that we were compelled to pass over them to get into the Salt Lake Valley. I was worried and asked myself, ‘How can the pilot find the way when he cannot see a thing?’ He had his compass but the plane might drift off its course. He had instruments indicating our distance above sea level but he had no way of knowing how far we were from the ground. I thought he might fly high enough to clear the mountains between us and the Salt Lake Valley and try to find the landing field by the flash of the beacons if we got close enough, but I chilled when I thought of the danger of losing our way and missing the beacons and the airport.

Lupe's Notes - Jun 3, 2012

Good afternoon sisters, I hope you are enjoying your day.

THOUGHT: “A teacher....should surely have so much of the Spirit of the Lord, as she enters a house to know what spirit she meets in there....Plead before God and the Holy Ghost to get [the Spirit] so that you will be able to meet that spirit that prevails in that house...and you may feel to talk words of peace and comfort, and if you find a sister feeling cold, take her to your heart as you would a child to your bosom and warm [her] up.”
Eliza R. Snow

BIRTHDAYS: June 4th – Gloria L; June 8th – Sarah H; June 9th Sally S.; June 9th Chao S. Happy Birthday sisters, I hope you have a very special day.

Today's lesson was given by Martha “Blessings and Gifts in Adversity”

My purpose in giving this lesson is to recognize, reflect on the pivotal moments and personal growth from trials, which can be seen as blessings or gifts – in other words, how we saw the hand of God, learned, received answers, had a change of heart, learned gospel principles, strengthened our testimonies, participated in a miracle, received a tender mercy, a rescue, felt forgiveness or true joy.

As you all know, trials and adversity are part of our earthly experience. They teach us divine attributes.
President Spencer W. Kimball said, “The cultivation of Christlike qualities is a demanding and relentless task – it is not for the seasonal worker or for those who will not stretch themselves, again and again.”
